FAQs

What if I currently have a maid service and am switching?

We are happy to take over from a prior service; we know you’ll appreciate our attention to consistency, reliability, and integrity. The first visit to your home may still need an Initial Clean to catch up all surfaces to a maintainable baseline, depending on the quality of your former service and the frequency of your prior service. Maybe you only need baseboards hand-wiped and you have zero build up elsewhere. If you have had a thorough service within a month and you feel there is little build up, we are able to start at maintenance level with just a little added time for our getting familiar and not yet at our recurring frequency. The team will assess at that time if more time will be needed for catching up specific tasks.


What about my pets?

Our teams are happy to meet your furry family members and understand the variety of temperaments, including the stress that may come with strangers in their home.  If you are unsure, please kennel or secure your dogs on your cleaning day, and make sure we know if you have any cats that like to escape! If you are 100% sure your pet will be friendly to strangers coming in, just let us know and our teams are happy to greet and love on them! Please also let us know about pet allergies because we carry organic dog treats to help put them at ease!


Do I need to be home for the cleaning?

Not at all. Most clients provide a key that we keep secure in our office or a safe and changeable garage or door code. As long as you have arranged access for us, you do not have to be home. Our technicians are used to cleaning in all kinds of settings. Clients may be working from home, or gone for the day, or come in and out. It is our policy to announce ourselves upon entry, and to lock any exterior doors we use..


Can I have the same cleaning tech every time?

You are assigned a team once you are on recurring service; however substitutions do occur for time off purposes, and your service will not be compromised. We feel it is more important to rely on consistent and reliable service from a professional service with high training standards.  Staff may be part time, have life or schedule changes, sick children or take vacations. We also foster a growth environment, with opportunities to grow into leadership positions, office, or just bettering themselves for other careers. Our checklist oriented training, quality review, and work order notes ensure consistency with all teams, but we also understand the individualized learning- that’s why your feedback is so important to us! The feedback survey notes get added to your work order so that each team lead can attend to your needs.


Will it be the same time every cleaning?

Generally, your recurring service will assigned as Afternoon or Morning but we can note a time preference, and you get the updated 1 hour window text alert the morning of. There are many variables such as clients in the route rescheduling, upgrading or requesting a 1-time accommodation and so the time can vary. As well, in hot weather, we have many clients without AC and we route them in the morning during the hot days. If a consistent time is needed, we will find a route that the 1st appointment is available, but it may result in the increased fee for overriding the efficient travel route. We are happy to review the access options our clients enjoy (code, key copy at our office, lockbox, etc.)


Can I skip my regular cleaning?

Yes of course, we understand there will be times the cleaning schedule cannot be accommodated. We do encourage a reschedule to maintain the expected frequency, but with notice are happy to provide a skip. We price your home based on the frequency you choose. Skipping your home will increase the traffic and the time spent, and will result in an increase to the next level of service.


What about damage?

We are fully insured and bonded, so in the event of any accidental breakage, our team leads will take a photo and will leave you a note to instruct you how to request replacement or repair reimbursement.


What about my valuables?

It is common practice to not leave out cash, jewelry, firearms, or other items of special value or safety risk, for our safety and your peace of mind. However, our policy is for the team lead to take a photo of items of concern for documentation. Of course, our hiring, screening, and training practices are also there for minimizing risk, but we will assist with any concerns.


Should I give a key copy?

Yes you can! We keep a large number of clients keys here in our key safe and the team checks them out and back in each day. They are marked with a code and not with your personal information for your safety. You are also welcome to leave other access instead, lockbox, garage code, etc.


Can we make cleaning product or equipment substitutions?

We supply all our own, high quality and eco-friendly supplies and equipment. Our training, efficiency and consistency depends on these products. If you have eco-friendly (non-toxic) products you prefer we use that you supply, we will evaluate if we find them effective enough and to not compromise our standards.

We are happy to use a vacuum you supply as long as we don’t find any issues with it’s safety or effectiveness- including the ability to safely carry it or use it on stairs, for example. We will expect that it has been properly maintained and we will not be able to perform any maintenance such as bag replacement, as it will differ from what we are familiar with. It is possible that using other products or equipment will add more time and be charged a housekeeping fee. We hold no liability whatsoever for other equipment or the quality and outcome of other products.


How does the Guarantee work:

If there is anything at all that you are unsatisfied with, just call the office promptly, within 2 business days. We will send someone back to correct any missed or unsatisfactory items that were included in your service level (see checklist) or pre-arranged add ons. If there were limitations to the condition, we will inspect and re-attempt or review any limitations and recommendations at that time. We do not sell discounted service, instead we honor our satisfaction guarantee- we need to hear back within the next day (or two) and we will send someone back to redo those areas.


Can you Wash or Fold Laundry

We can wash and load to dryer 1 load as an extra fee. Drying time can vary and easily exceed our appointment time, so we would ask you leave a clean set of linens to change the bedding for you.


Can I eliminate or skip cleaning certain rooms in my house?

Yes! We are happy to customize your cleaning to meet your needs as they change. We can quote with the room(s) included each and without and so you can always decide to add it later or on a rotation. We do need to make the work order adjustments before the team arrives, so just be sure to let the office know if you need any changes ahead of time.


Are you priced higher than others?

We do not charge a premium for committing to all non-toxic products and professional grade supplies. We are, however, more expensive than services that hire out “contract cleaners”, without the investment in overhead to ensure the standards and maintain a stable client and employee base. The value is in the peace of mind of a reliable, stable company. Even for those just needing a 1-time cleaning, you can feel secure that you don’t have to screen, insure, or worry that the work is done properly or if any accidents should occur.

RE: Unhappy with prior service- inconsistency or quality.

We ensure consistency and quality with a focus on training and thorough checklist. Home cleaning can be very subjective and without a consistent regimen, it is likely that tunnel vision, as well as hubris, takes over. All cleaning services are concerned with the cleaning time- labor is the most expensive cost. However, many cleaners are paid more for speed. At ecomaids, not only is our training process based on the consistency and efficiency of a checklist routine, but the technicians are trained, and  incentivized, for quality. They understand the quality review step is part of the cleaning process because of this tunnel vision trap. Their effort is rewarded with the feedback – including anything they can do better, and with bonuses on overall high quality scores.
