My Why
In an interesting study, psychologists gave research participants $5. Some were instructed to spend it on themselves while others were told to spend it on someone else. Guess which group reported being happier? That’s right . . . the group who spent the money on someone else! I can testify to that experience in my own business. Sure, I need to make a living and ensure that my staff does too. But I also strive to positively impact people’s lives.
My mission,” to transform homes into havens and enable people to spend more time on the joys in life”, isn’t simply a “glittering generality” or sexy soundbite (okay, so it’s not all that sexy). I chose cleaning because I know, firsthand, the power of a clean home and the gifts it offers.
When I had twins (not too long ago), instead of bringing food or sending flowers, someone sent a housekeeper. It might be an overstatement to say that having my house cleaned for me was a Godsend –but not by much! Amidst the chaotic adjustment to not one but two brand new babies, having a clean house gave me a sense of calm, order, and peace at a time in which that was anything but the case.
Look, I’ve had struggles in this business (if you don’t believe me, read my last blog on difficult clients). But each time I receive an email, a phone call, or read a review from a client who is contending with life struggles, and they express deep appreciation for my team and my business, it gives me a sense that, even for just a little while, their lives are better because of us.
When Lisa’s husband died, on top of everything else she was dealing with, she had out-of-town guests coming to her home. Admittedly, her house didn’t need a simple, superficial clean; it needed a deep clean. The fact that my team and I were able to support her during this difficult time reinforced the purpose for being in this business.
I had to laugh when I read what Jessica wrote: “If you are a stay-at-home care provider with young children, do yourself a favor and get this service.” I get it! What was really the icing on the cake though was when she said, “A huge weight is off my shoulders and I can enjoy my home once again!” It’s times like these that I know I’m on the right path and am living out my mission.
Keeping It Clean,
